Chief Lanier is a BEAST!: Major Weapons and Drug Bust

Weapons that would have been used to commit crimes against DMV's citizens.

I have my reservations about the "Po" (Police), but when it comes to Chief Lanier, I'm proud of her work ethic and drive (and the fact that she is a single mom and doesn't play around).
On Monday, authorities announced that the MetropolitanPolice Department confiscated161 firearms, made 70 arrests and seized more than $7 million in drugs during ayearlong sting operation.

The police department posed as a recording studio ascover; Chief Lanier said:

If you follow Celebrity news, then you may know that a Dutch Magazine titled Jackie has taken some heat over a racial slur that was printed about Pop Singer, Rihanna. Well, Ri-Ri snapped back and you won't believe this!

Jackie’s Editor-In-Chief, Eva Hoeke has sinced issued an apology for the racial slur that was printed, but now Rihanna has put out the following statement via twitter as of last night:

"@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print! There are 1000's of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That's your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together,with the intent of abasement, that made no sense..."***** BITCH"?!....

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

A lady that I know was at a local store just last night, shopping for a few things.

Like most people I know she went in the store for a couple of things but ended up getting some other items that she had been meaning to pick up. After she was done with her shopping she proceeded to the front but was surprised to see that no cashiers were on duty.

A few minutes passed and a cashier appeared, slightly shaken but she was ready to ring up the ladys' purchases. Noticing that the cashier seemed shaken, she asked her what was wrong? The cashier told her that they had just been ROBBED. Complete and utter shock went through her mind as she realized that she was in the store the whole time. In hindsight, she says that she should have paid more attention to her instincts when she walked in, but thankfully her list of things she needed to pick up kept growing and growing, keeping her from becoming a part of the crime that had just gone down.

With that being said, here are a few basic tips to keep in mind that you probably already know but just need to be reminded to put them into practice :)

DONT carry large amounts of cash; use credit cards/check cards
DONT bog yourself down with packages that curb your mobility; pickpockets and purse snatchers still exist
STAY ALERT when using the ATM, also its probably not smart to go to that ATM on the corner in the hood @ 3AM
LOCK ALL DOORS, at home and in your vehicle, and please dont be one of those people that drives around all day buying one thing after another and then decides to go eat at Outback once you have filled the vehicle with all your purchases
Please KEEP TRACK OF YOUR KIDS, have a plan in place and definitley talk to your kids becuase there are some ill folks out here and could really take advantage around this time of year, keep the kids safe!
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS! If something doesn't look/feel right to you, go with your gutt.

Soooo...Friends?

Those of you who read this blog regularly know that #DCity'sAngels are on that #positivitymovement. But we're still real, so we had to address this because it looked kind of funny...

First let me say that we have love for both of these women...very classy and intelligent - BOTH of THEM! And with that said, they also seem to be very mature. For those of you who don't know, Emily B (of VH1's Love and Hip Hop) has a son with rapper, Fabolous. Adrienne Bailon is also a musician, who was a part of the girl groups 3LW and Cheetah Girls Group. But here's where it gets interesting...

Folks have been speculating for a while now that Fabo and Adrienne have been getting it in, partly because they party at a lot of the same events and are pictured together A LOT more than he and Emily (#googleit). And typically, women don't like to rub elbows with women who have crept with their exes. So this picture looks like................

Are they really cool with each other? Adrienne looks so excited (some would say shocked) unlike any other pic I've ever seen her in, and Emily looks ALL the way over it.

Although this is merely a speculation, it seems like they wouldn't have taken this picture for themselves...Ladies know how it is when you are out with your girls taking pictures of EVERY part of the evening...but did these two really WANT to remember this (possibly awkward) moment? Or did they just want to make nice for the cameras?

On the one hand, mature people move on with their lives and there is no sense in being angry with someone for doing something that you didn't agree with, especially if it's only an allegation.

However, one could argue that there is NO WAY that they could genuinely enjoy the company of someone who allegedly violated your relationship boundaries.

Hey Fellas! As you know, there are many things to keep in mind when dating (like #wrapingitup), and it can be hard to remember all of the details at times, especially if you are dating one of the DMV's beautiful women.

But no worries guys...DCity's Angels got your back...if you don't remember anything, remember these tips, and you should at least make it to the next date...

"Hi Golddiggers! Meet my pockets!"

Don't #1 - Brag about what you have. We refer to you as Dreamsellers. Talking about how much money (or how many things) you have can be a complete turn off to (real) women. It comes off as insecurity and/or makes us think you have to try really hard to sell yourself because you are...*ahem*... lacking in some area(s). Besides, the kind of woman that wants to discuss finances on the first date is not really that into you anyway. So if you choose to talk funding on the first date, just don't go screaming Golddigger when she's looking for you to put a down payment on the dream you sold.

Ugh...I can't...

Don't #2 - Talk about your Ex. As relevant as it may seem to the topic, it's not cool. Every ONE time you mention an ex is TWO times to many...you do the math. Your bringing her up let's us know she is still on your mind, and that's not sexy...If you REALLY MUST express an idea that happens to include details from a past relationship, try your best to say it without having to bring up a specific person. Keep it generic.

Don't #3 - Be PLAN-LESS - THIS IS A BIG ONE!... (like #wrapingitup). Even if it's a BAD Plan, we'll at least respect you for putting some thought into it (Remember the Movie "Hitch"?

HAVE A PLAN!

Man says: Can I take you out?

Woman says: Sure, I'd love to!

Man says: Great, I'll pick you up at 8:00.

later at 8:00pm - *Man picks woman up as promised*

Man says: What do you want to do tonight?

Woman thinks: Are you JUST thinking about this???

Who knows what she'll say; if she liked you enough to accept the date, she'll probably just go along with it and suggest one of her favorite spots. But the whole idea is that if you don't have a plan, your date was not really important to you; more like an after thought. Plus if she suggests a place, its likely that she's been there previously on another date. So you could be setting yourself up for unfair comparisons.

Suggestion: take her to do something that YOU like to do...the whole point is to get to know each other anyway. When a man suggests a date, picks a woman up, ANDhas a PLAN, she feels taken care of and interested in.

So there it is fellas...if you keep these tips in mind, you should be okay for the first date. We won't bore you with the other hundred dating don'ts today...but stay tuned for more...oh, and #wrapitup!

"According to a study of homeless youths in the District that will be released Monday by the D.C. Alliance of Youth Advocates (DCAYA), a growing number of parents younger than 24 are seeking shelter. The group surveyed nearly 500 people ages 12 to 24 who were living in emergency shelters, on the street or in other unstable housing arrangements. About half had children — and most had custody of them. "

I just read an article on a great lady who I have always admired (since learning about her in 1996), and it prompted me to really delve into what I admire about people like her.

One word: STRENGTH

Before I get into that though, just a few details on our featured lady Ms. Tina Knowles:

She was born in Galveston, Texas (sometime after the polio vaccine wasdiscovered, but before Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio) and in the time that she hasbeen here, she has done a lot! Besidesbeing an outstanding wife and mother/grandmother, she is an entrepreneur, and fashiondesigner. From, Headliners Hair Salon tothe Miss Tina line, she has kept herself busy designing costumes for Destiny’s Child and helping to get House of Dereon (and Dereon) off the ground. In the midst of all that she found the timeto raise two positively influential daughters and unfortunately underwenta divorce. She was recently honored at the University of Houston’s 15th annual 'Living Archives' event.

Now let's talk about the Strength part: We all know that the world can be ugly, and the more you aspire to, the more the world can try to tear you down off your focus. Life is hard - especially life in the fast lane. Through it all though, Ms. Tina has kept a style and grace about her that should be recognized. Never have you seen this woman yelling orcursing, or even looking stressed out…I don’t know how she does it, but sheserves as a great example for those of us who aspire to have dreams. One other tidbit that I have heard over the years is that Ms. Tina can sing too! Apparently, she performed with a localsinging group when she was younger…Goes to show that dreams don’t die…they onlyget bigger! Miss Tina – DCityLife lovesyou! Thanks for showing us the way!

It seems like most offices have conformed to dividing the office space into cubicles instead of individual offices. While it provides the ability to fit more workers into the office space, it also brings more problems as well. See below for some universal folks inside cubicle nation:

THE NOISY CONVERSATIONALIST- no matter what is going on this person is talking loud either on the phone or just in general. Then they usually have the nerve to look/act shocked when people mention anything about this to them. This is also the person that is the first to complain the minute they can hear someone laughing in a near by cubicle, regardless of the fact that we just heard them schedule an OBGYN appointment. Get it together!

THE LUNCH PACKER - brings everything in for lunch and eats in their cubicle EVERYDAY, you've smelled FISH, CURRY, TUNA SURPRISE, GARLIC & ONION PIZZA- if it has a strong smell they are definitely bringing it, heating it up and eating it regardless of how offensive the smell is.

THE POPPER - this person is ALWAYS poking their head over someone elses desk, invading the last little bit of privacy you thought you had and most likely they are always catching people mid chew, scratch or adjustment.

THE RACKET-TEER - this person is always burping, profusely blowing their nose, chewing ice, popping gum, tapping on something or playing their music way too loud. To them these are things so habitual that they may not even notice it but the rest of the office surely does.

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT (Most likely JANE)- This is the person that has something for anything you might need throughout the day - an asprin, a safety pin, any kind of plastic utensil, hot sauce and other condiments, plates, bowls, gel, floss, an extra toothbrush, tissue, coupons, AVON catalogs and who knows what else, you name it they've got it

What if she's extremely humiliated by her short marriage and didn't see this coming a mile away? Why are you people so concerned and overflowing with Hate?

So you mean to tell me that you are so disgusted with someone else's "poor choices" that you are willing to go out of your way to get them off the air - DO YOU PEOPLE WATCH NANCY GRACE or BILL O'REILLY? Please handle that first before you go after the Kardashians - who by the way, are not hurting anyone and are a source of entertainment for all ages. Until you have enough sense to fight for something that really matters (#occupyprotests OR #deathpenalty OR #world hunger OR #local hunger) please stay away from ALL petitions! Or better yet, review your own list of poor choices and highlight all the ones you think Kim Kardashian would protest.

There is so much culture etched within each corner of the DMV Metro Area that we often forget how lucky we are to have it all at our doorsteps.

I knew about the permanent exhibitions at the National Gallery of Art, and one of my co-workers had let me know about the Andy Worhol Exhibit, but I was pleased to find that they have a Full website dedicated to kids! It's an interactive site that allows kids (and parents) to participate in Projects and learn Art History.

Thinking back, it may have been my involvement in these types of activities (as a child) that kept me so balanced and unfocused on the trivial things that kids can sometimes become enamored with. Knowing and learning lots of cool things also gives children a sense of who they are and what it is that they would like to experience and aspire to.

So the next time your child expresses boredom - send them to this site - who knows, (hopefully) they may even be inspired to suggest a visit the National Gallery of Art!

NBA Commissioner David Stern said early Saturday morning that, if the tentative agreement reached between the owners and players is completed and ratified, he is hopeful of having a 66-game season, beginning on Christmas Day.

Some would say that natural hair is beginning to be more common. Others would say that its been the norm. Whatever the case there are sooo many resources out there for people who want to learn more about caring for natural hair.

I have listed my top 3 tips for natural hair, what are some of yours?

Only comb through WET hair. Attepmting to comb through dry, coily hair is a recipe for breakage.
Try different regimens until you find one that is comfortable for you
WATER, WATER, WATER - believe it or not, the amount water you intake on a daily basis has LOTS to do with the health of your hair so DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!
